Project Outline

The project is the construction of road/bridge, located in Gwongok-dong on National Route 45, to improve traffic flow and user convenience through bridge reconstruction that satisfies the problems due to the fact that flood level of existing bridge dose not meet the clearance under bridge of the current design code and continuous congestion occurs. BANDI carried out the design the bridge of the project. The total road length of the project is 0.957km, of which the bridge length is about 300m.

The new Chungmu Bridge will be a landscape structure with an arch-shaped members applied to the central piers of the bridge, creating a bridge landscape that embodies the history of Asan City and the symbolic image of the region.

Structural Characteristics

Asan Chungmu Bridge was originally designed with 7 spans of PSC beams (Box type) with main span length of 46m in the detailed design stage, but in the alternative design, it was enhanced to the longer 6 span of PSC beams (I-type) with main span length of 53m to improve water flow in the river. It was planned to represent the gateway and symbolism of Asan City by applying a landscape structure containing the history and culture of Asan.

In order to minimize traffic safety and inconvenience for drivers during construction, the location of the new bridge was rearranged so that the existing bridge could be removed at once, excluding temporary bridges for traffic management.

A T-type pier using a cast-in-place mono pile was planned to maximize constructability, openness, and utilization of space under the bridge.
